Your Story, Your School: Matthew Olker
Seniors around the school are scrambling to prepare for college. This is often a stressful time for all students, but for seniors especially. The daunting idea of college is looming over them and some seniors, like Matthew Olker, are going great distances for further schooling.
Unlike many seniors, Matthew isn’t scared to leave high school behind. “I’m excited to go to college. I’m going to North Carolina for college and it has a lot of things that I want and the East Coast is right there.” Matthew remains optimistic about living away from Rocklin.
Matthew plans to major in computer science. “My dad is an engineer at HP and when I heard there would be an AP Comp[uter] Science class at Rocklin, I thought I might as well take it because both of my parents did.”
Being a senior can be a surreal experience and Matthew said that he won’t believe that he’s actually a senior and is graduating for college until Senior Rally. He feels that he won’t feel like a graduate until he physically crosses a threshold. He thinks that everyone goes through this and that the last two weeks of high school are the weirdest ones.
Like Matthew, the Class of 2015 is ready to graduate and enter the world of college. They’ve all prepared for it and have applied for colleges all over the country. Although it will be tough, we all know that the Class of 2015 will prevail and go far in life.
