Rocklin varsity girls soccer played against Folsom on Wednesday, May 13 for the D2 Semifinals. By halftime the game remained scoreless, causing Rocklin to look for opportunities to capitalize on their opponent.

Rocklin had played Folsom twice previously in the season. On March 27, the Rocklin Thunder girls lost the conference game against Folsom by a score of 1-0.

April 28 the two teams faced each other for the second time at Folsom. The Thunder rallied over the Bulldogs, beating them in a close match of 2-1.

The third time the teams played, it was in the Division 2 Semifinal game. The Thunder knew they had to win to advance to the Finals.

“I thought it was a good battle, we’ve played them two times before so we knew how they were going to play and we knew what we had to do to win the game, and what to be aware of. It was a very competitive and very aggressive and dirty game,” said senior Lindsay Erl.

The Thunder will play on Saturday, May 16 at 2pm against longtime rival Del Oro Eagles at Cosumnes Oaks High School.

“[The last time we played them] it was good game and it was at Del Oro. We played really well, they got a goal early but the rest of the game we dominated and they were getting super frustrated,” added Lindsay.

Rocklin will continue to prepare for the game on Saturday. The girls are preparing mentally and physically, keeping track of their diet and exercise.

“We have to make sure our heads are in it and we are training on what we need to work on for Saturday. And Morrison is sending us texts to make sure we eat right and sleep well and phones off before 9 o’clock,” said Lindsay.

The Thunder hope to take an early lead and maintain possession of the ball throughout the Del Oro game, while shutting out their opponents. Although, the team lost to Del Oro the last time they faced each other, they are hoping to retaliate and end with a win.
