Going from a 3-19 record to section playoffs three years in a row, the RHS softball program has taken a turn for the better.

With a second place finish in league and third place finish in sections last year, the RHS coaching staff and players had high expectations for the 2015 season.  So far, the Varsity softball team has proven to be pretty solid.  Heading to playoffs with a third place finish in league this year, the Varsity softball players are determined to win sections.

“We all unanimously agreed that we want to win sections, so we had a practice specifically to discuss personal and team goals in order to obtain that title,” Lauren Buban, senior, said.

Leading up to playoffs, the softball team incurred a tough loss last Tuesday, battling against Woodcreek.  However, the Varsity softball team is carrying some positive momentum from their 10-0 win over Folsom last week into their first playoff game.

The first game out is single elimination while the rest of the tournament is single elimination.  In order to advance, the softball team has to win their first game or they will be eliminated from the tournament completely.  While the pressure is on, the softball players have been working very hard this year and plan on finishing high in playoffs.

“We know that if we play to the best of our abilities that we will be successful, so we can’t let the pressure affect us and get in our heads,” Alexis Brown, senior, said.

The Varsity softball team begins section playoffs this Wednesday with their first game against Vintage High School.  Vintage High School has consistently had a solid team over the last couple of years, claiming the title of 2013 CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Champions.  It is going to be a tough game according to the RHS softball team, but it is definitely doable.

“I am optimistic.  As long as we all stick together and work hard, I think we will do well this year,” senior, Sami Sjostrand, said.

As each year goes by, the RHS softball team inches closer to acquiring a section title themselves, and hopefully, this is the year they will bring it home.
