Big Hero 6 Creates a Unique and Fantastical World

One of the biggest entertainment companies of today’s world, Marvel Entertainment, released a movie based off an obscure Marvel comic and manga on November 7th. Big Hero 6 did better in its opening weekend than anyone had thought it would, surpassing Interstellar in the box office.

Big Hero 6 focuses on a boy named Hiro Hamada, a fourteen year old with a high IQ. He’s accepted into an engineering college, the same one his brother, Tadashi, went to. Tadashi made a robot named Baymax, whose sole purpose is to help others, like a nurse.

The hype leading up to Big Hero 6 was expressed by only a few, but, now that it has come out, nearly everyone is going out to see it. Those who have already seen it were not disappointed, falling in love with the unique characters.

The movie is incredibly well made and the animation has few flaws. The characters are all well developed and their stories are all realistic.

The two directors, Don Hall and Chris Williams made this film their own by creating their own world and placing these characters in it. They created a mash-up between western and eastern culture with the city of “San Fransokyo,” a mixture of Tokyo and San Francisco.

Director Don Hall stated, “The comic was a kind of a love letter to Japanese pop culture and it was all about teamwork and we were very inspired by this.”

The movie sticks true to only some of the original factors of the comics, mainly because Marvel told Don Hall and Chris Williams that they would rather have them make their own world. This creates an interesting twist on these fantastic characters and their story. Having both Hall and Williams working as directors on this film allowed the immense workload of an animated picture to be diffused.

Through all the hardships faced with creating a well-done animated film, Hall and Williams were able to create a great story full of life and emotion. This is one of the best animated films to come out of this year, and should be recommended for everyone to see it.
