New Year, New Me: Female Performances at VMA’s

What has changed from the astonishing VMA performances we enjoyed last year? Sunday, August 23rd was the 2014 Video Music Awards. We all remember Miley’s outfit and performance last year, but it looks like she kept it classy this year – especially compared to some other celebrities.

Miley Cyrus made a 360 turnaround by having a homeless youth go up on the stage and accept her music video award for her.  While the youth named Jesse went up and talked about how those watching can help donate for a homeless center in hollywood, Cyrus sat in the audience and cried as Jesse took the trophy. Some of the other performers should start taking notes from Miley; this year she showed the world that one can transition from being a clumsy, scandalous adolescent to being a helpful, caring adult.

On the flip side Nicki Minaj may be taking pointers from 2013 Miley; on stage during her performance for “Anaconda” she boasted suggestive body language along with one of her female dancers, and not to mention plenty of twerking.

Unlike other performers at the VMAs, Beyoncé kept her modesty while she owned the stage like no other. Her 5 minute performance pulled in so much attention from all social media. Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook were blown up with Beyoncé and her spectacular exposition. Beyoncé  made a huge statement about feminism and how important it is to stand up for being a strong woman.

She set a great example for her daughter Blue Ivy who the cameras caught dancing in Jay-Z’s lap during the performance. Beyoncé showed us that you can be modest but still fabulous. After her extravagant performance, she won her 7th moon man award of the night, proving that women who respect themselves can still make it big.
