Is Big Spoon Yogurt at Lunch Worth It?

A few months ago the RHS cafeteria got a fun new dessert!  They welcomed the popular Big Spoon Yogurt as a choice at the snack bar.  It’s a decent deal at $1.50, but hasn’t been a huge hit quite yet.  Although it was somewhat popular at first, sales have gone down.  It is a rare sight to see a student snacking on the yogurt at lunch.

We decided to try all three flavors (Cake Batter, Chocolate Vanilla Swirl, and Cookies n’ Cream) to see if it is worth the price.

We started off with Cake Batter. Within the first bite we noticed the texture wasn’t what we expected. We tasted the ice in ice cream, but it lacked the cream. Emily was surprised when she read the label after tasting it and realised that it wasn’t vanilla.

She said, “It makes an awful cake batter and a tolerable vanilla.”

Overall, we thought that it was good and still worth the try, but we wouldn’t give it a second buy. We were more pleased with our next flavor sampling.

We were fortunately most satisfied with Chocolate Vanilla Swirl. Although it still had an odd texture, we enjoyed the taste. The chocolate in the yogurt reminded Rachel of a fudgsicle, and Emily thought it had a similar taste to the ice cream sundae fudge cups she ate as a little kid.

While eating the Chocolate Vanilla Swirl we decided to go back to the Cake Batter to compare. We were appalled at it’s revolting taste in contrast to the Chocolate Vanilla Swirl. When having the worse tasting frozen yogurt first, we had nothing to compare it to and assumed that it was still pretty good.

We followed Chocolate Vanilla Swirl with Cookies and Cream.  The Cookies and Cream yogurt was a solid light gray and did not look very appetizing.  Although looks can sometimes deceive, its taste matched its appearance.  It didn’t taste anything like the classic Cookies and Cream flavor.  It lacked that creamy vanilla flavor with a hint of oreo cookie, that most people associate with products labeled ‘Cookies and Cream.’

We had to chew the yogurt, but it wasn’t because of cookie chunks. The consistency was icy, with chunks of yogurt that remained frozen.  It lacked the creaminess of most frozen yogurts. It tasted okay, but we wouldn’t pay money for it a second time.

The yogurt was a fun treat and an enjoyable the sweet snack, but the flavors just didn’t meet our expectations.  After trying all the flavors we came to the conclusion that they did not match the texture. It can be frosty and fruity, or creamy and diary based. Milk should never be icy. Buying big spoon at the school is more for the fun experience then a satisfying dessert. If you were to buy it, we highly recommend the Chocolate Vanilla Swirl. If you’re in the mood for some quality frozen yogurt, wait until after school and head to Tops Yogurt.
