Master of Wrestling
Athletes spend their high school years striving to be the best at the sport they play. The ultimate goal is to make it to playoffs and state. For senior Skyler Gonzalez, he has achieved the goal of competing for a state championship for wrestling, which will be on Friday and Saturday in Bakersfield at 9am.
He started wrestling since seventh grade and never looked back.
“I started wrestling because I wanted to be better at football,” said Skyler.
He finished second in this years Master’s wrestling tournament and earned a shot at state. “The tournament was a lot of fun, I got to have the challenge of competing against better wrestlers,” said Skyler. He finished second in the tournament, but wishes he could have won but is grateful for the opportunity to wrestle against other great wrestlers.
“I wrestled well and look forward to the state championships this weekend,”said Skyler. This is Skyler’s first year wrestling at the state level and he hopes to make a statement in his last tournament.
“I am looking forward to the experience of competing at state and I hope to place,” said Skyler. The challenge of wrestling and state and experience of participating in the tournament for the first time has motivated Skyler to compete at a higher level.
Skyler is a talented wrestler and looks forward to his first state tournament where he hopes he will place. All the hard work and dedication Skyler put into wrestling has paid off. As the only senior on the Rocklin High School wrestling team he has reached the top tier of high school wrestling by making it to state.
