Matched

Matched

Can you imagine a society where there isn’t any illness, crime and diseases have been eradicated? Matched by Ally Condie, takes place in a future America that is no longer a democratic republic.

The Society has taken over to allow its citizens to live longer, healthier, prosperous lives. In order to do this, The Society takes away the fundamental rights of it’s citizens and abuses their power over them, from constant monitoring to controlling how much and what they eat. It even “humanely” kills its citizens at age 80 because those in it believe that this is the ideal age for one to die. The Society is dark and twisted, filled with many unimaginable secrets as the main character, Cassia Reyes, begins to find out.

In the Society, people are not allowed to marry who they want. They are matched to an “ideal” partner based upon genetics. The citizens can choose to remain single for the rest of their lives, but with this decision, they forgo any chances of having a family.

Cassia Reyes chooses to be matched and is matched to her best friend. However, when she returns to her home to read the information The Society has given her about her match, it is that of another boy named Ky. Cassia is shocked by the mistake made, but more so by the fact that she cannot stop thinking about Ky.

As Cassia begins to realize she wants more out of life, she begins to grow a deep hatred for the Society. Cassia begins to understand that people should not be limited and monitored at all times and that every citizen deserves more. Although she does not plan on rebelling against the Society, her secret love is a rebellion of it’s own.
