Role Swap: English Edition

Sometimes teachers can get tired of teaching the same class over and over again, and that was such the case with Mr. Grace and Mr. Pereira. These two teachers pulled a little swap of classes before this year began. Mr. Pereira went from teaching the juniors in Honors English 3 to teaching the regular freshmen class. Mr. Grace now teaches regular freshmen as well as the Honors English 3 Juniors.

Grace said “The biggest difference when teaching the freshmen is the maturity levels. The juniors are sometimes more mature, just because they are older.”

Another big change for Mr. Grace is that next year he will be teaching a different class. AP Language Composition will be offered next year and Mr. Grace will be teaching it.

Grace said “AP Language Composition will be a class next year that covers many of the same books as Honors English 3, but will do more in way of analyzing and writing.”

The Honors English 3 class has long been regarded as a “joke” of a class, and the English Department is unanimous in wanting the get rid of Honors English 3 as a whole and just having the AP Language Composition class and the regular English 3 class.

Grace and Pereira did pull off a little bit of a teacher role swap, but they believe that it’s for the best and the interest in keeping them refreshed in teaching.
