Everywhere I see, people keep making fun of the Sochi’s Olympic venue. “Oh the doors keep locking.” “Oh there’s wires in the hallway.”  “Look at the Opening Ceremony’s mishap!” Why do you make fun of them? It’s not like they want that to happen. They had to build all new venues just for this three week event. Which is hosting thousands of people, tourists and competitors.

People even went to the extent to make a twitter account called “SochiProblems”. Every Olympics, sadly to say, has had it’s share of problems. London, Vancouver, Beijing, even Salt Lake City (2006). All had problems, maybe not the same as Russia but still are problems. So Americans have no right to make fun of Russia. It’s no help that NBC, the only US Olympic coverage station, is taking any chance to broadcast something that went wrong. They’re giving you a reason to judge and ridicule.

People are even complaining of the weather. Yes, because Russia totally controls the weather. They’re talking mostly of how the half-pipe was melting, it raining during the Parallel Slalom. Yes, they’re having major issues with their housing situations, but most Olympic host cities have issues with housing. Have you not seen San Francisco? They have been under construction for around seven years.

The only reason they are hating on Sochi is because of the anti-gay laws, President Putin and the conditions of some of their slums. Their opening ceremony was good, besides the mishap, but that could happen to anyone! An electrical problem is common everywhere. Look at the Super Bowl last year. You don’t see Russia making fun of U.S.A. What would you do if it was your country being ridiculed?

Russia gets so much bad credit for previously being a communist country, when they were the Soviet Union. They have tried so hard to get out of the slums and these games are the perfect chance to prove they are doing better and what they’re capable of now in the 21st century.

Don’t criticize and make fun of a country trying their best to show the world they’re not all bad. You can be judged just as much as they can, and that is not a feeling you would like. Russia is doing a fantastic job as the host of the XXII Olympic Winter Games.
