Schedule Switch Up

The crowd roaring and the feeling of jitters floating throughout the gym are the memories and emotions that not only the athletes feel, but that also surge through the fans cheering them on. Boys varsity basketball games are moments we will remember and now this year Friday  nights are shared with the girls varsity team. Schedules have been switched to accommodate this change throughout each program and school within the league.

People on campus who enjoy watching JV and freshmen teams play have difficulties memorizing the times and days that they play on. For now the JV girls play on Fridays before girls varsity but halfway through the season they will switch to Thursdays after both teams’ freshmen play.

The schedule for the basketball teams include:

  • All boys levels play on Tuesdays at  4/ 5:30/ 7

  • All girls levels play on Wednesdays at 4/ 5:30/ 7

  • Girls freshmen play on Thursdays at 4

  • Boys freshmen play on Thursdays at 5:30

  • For the first half of season

    • Boys JV play on Thursdays at 7

    • Girls JV play on Fridays at 4

  • For the second half of the season

    • Girls JV play on Thursdays at 7

    • Boys JV play on Fridays at 4

  • Girls varsity play on Fridays at 5;30

  • Boys varsity play on Fridays at 7

“This new schedule is really confusing. I never know what time the games are and I would end up going to the wrong game or going really early to a game that would not start for another hour.” said dedicated fan, Kayla Raetz.

One of the main reasons the traditional schedule switched to this irregular one is to generate more attendance for the girls basketball games. Rocklin’s goal was to generate more support for all six teams rather than just boys’ varsity.

Rachel Agarpo, a senior and third year varsity player, said,  “It’s nice to have fans because normally at our games we have a total of ten people show up. It was kind of nerve racking at first because we actually have to play in front of people.”

Although it might take a little more work to find the what time the team you would want to watch is playing, it is worth it.  Not only for the experience of a high school basketball game, but the support from fellow peers means the world to players.
