An Artistic Sketch

An+Artistic+Sketch

A sketch in the artistic world is often defined as incomplete or in need of major revisal, lacking true beauty and capability of an artist. However, if one were to stroll into the Sketch Restaurant of Mayfair, a ritzy central London neighborhood, such a “sketch” may appear to be more beautiful than previous assumptions.

Sketch of Mayfair, an establishment solely concentrated on the presentation and integration of French Fusion, successfully captures the beauty and intricacy of a contemporary restaurant dining experience with its ultramodern layout and informative staff.

Outside the restaurant, two large glass doors followed by a holographic hopscotch invite the guests into a truly playful lobby. As I walked into the main lobby, it felt as if I had been transported into the whimsical world of Alice in Wonderland. A variety of colorful chairs of different shapes and sizes appeared next to the hostess stand accompanied by iridescent lighting. The hostess kindly took my coat and led me into a beautifully designed dining hall with fifty foot ceilings spattered with vibrant paints and portraits. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, unique and intriguing, and constantly grabbed my attention with its crazy decor.

After being seated, my mother and I looked at the fashionable menu, held together by three folded paper forks in the center. The variety of food was unimaginable, ranging anywhere from a quinoa salad with a chili dressing to the complicated sciences of gastronomy.

Our waiter, a young French man, formally introduced himself and displayed a hospitable characteristic as he asked how our trip to London had been. He patiently waited for us to look over the complex menu, which in itself was aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

After thoroughly looking over the menu, I started my meal with sweet and sour escargot accompanied with a sour green jelly and pancetta. While waiting for my appetizer to arrive, our compliant waiter served us the house bread with a chipotle garlic butter.

The bread was fluffy and fresh, not exhibiting any apparent flaws. My sweet and sour snail arrived on a petite plate served on top of the green sour jelly. Each bite was more delectable than the last as the sweet and sour aspects really balanced one another. The sweet aspect involved flavors of garlic, butter, and even brown sugar and was served adjacent to its sour counterpart. The sour portion of the snail was properly acidic and didn’t overwhelm the mixed flavors of the dish. Tres belle!

Next, I ordered the house venison with a meat stew. Still our waiter was at our side to describe what we were about to eat. The informative staff really made the meal that much more special.

The combination of delicious food and a wacky yet contrastingly phenomenal decoration began to set the mood for what a dining experience was truly all about. The clinks of glasses vibrating off the tall columns of the restaurant was truly appealing.

As my venison arriving sizzling on the plate, I could smell the aroma of wine sauce deliciously flowing through the air. The first bite was tender and delicious. Throughout my entree, I never encountered the gamy flavor often associated with venison. The meat stew served alongside the venison was equally as flavorful and delicious, and its rich flavors left me asking for more.

All in all, my dining experience at Sketch was a memory I shall never forget. Whether it was the original design or the inconceivably astounding food, the Sketch Restaurant of Mayfair is one that I would recommend to anyone with an open heart and an empty stomach.
