The club stands at an angle. The wind-up is great. The swing and the follow through are beautiful. But is it enough to win the championships? The pressure is on, and does not end until the match is over.

Golf is not an easy sport. Like the sports of swimming and tennis, it is much harder to master than anyone would think. No one knows the struggle to succeed better than varsity golf player Sarah Cluff.

The sophomore has had a great year, both individually and as a player on the overall team. The girls golf team won the SFL Championships, and won Masters for the first time this season, with Sarah shooting an 89. Her best score this year was a 78.

Sarah has plenty of golf experience, with golfing having been a part of her life since she was seven. She was a 6 year gymnast, and has over 80 medals from that time.

Sarah says that the feeling of winning Masters was amazing.

“It was thrilling, exciting, and unexpected, considering the team didn’t do very well in SFL Champs,” Sarah says.

Sarah says that the bond that the team shares a bond that drives them to win.

“We have such a special bond, but we’re competitive. We all want to win, and that brings us closer as a group of friends and as a team.”

She says the overall scores of the team are mostly individual, but the support of the team is always great. Plus, Sarah and her fellow sophomores “all have a year of experience now, and know how to handle the stress of the game,” says Sarah.

The girl’s golf season has reached its end, but Sarah is happy with the way their season finished.

“We’ll come back next year even better than this year.”

Watch for the girl’s golf team next year; they might be going further than even they thought was possible: state.
