The GPAs are out and the rankings are up.  The cumulative GPAs for all fall sports were released this week and the teams have been ranked from highest to lowest. Below is the ranking of the teams as well as their average GPAs.

1. Varsity Dance Team-3.69

2. JV Girls Tennis-3.67

3. JV Girls XC-3.60

4. JV Dance-3.58

5. JV Girls Volleyball-3.56

6. Varsity Girls XC-3.55

7. Frosh Girls Volleyball-3.49

Dance Team came out on top with a GPA of 3.7.  The girls on the dance team are very dedicated.  They practice every day after school, perform at football games and basketball games, and on top of all of this, they have to complete their everyday school work.

Dance team member Lexi DiBella said, “I definitely have to utilize my planner.  I plan out all of my practices and games and use plus and lunch to talk with my teachers and get help.  I think there was a bit of shock when we got the highest GPA because it was a really busy season and we had a lot of freshman this year.”

All of the members on the dance team are thrilled that all of their hard work has paid off.

JV Girls Tennis followed closely with a GPA of 3.67.  The girls on the team work really hard both on the court, and in the classroom.

Sophomore Tennis player Erica McNeil said, “Grades matter a lot to the all of the girls on the Tennis team.  We put a lot of effort towards our schoolwork, so I’m not really surprised that we had a high GPA.”

According to these statistics, it seems that most female athletes at RHS have a similar dedication towards their schoolwork.  13 of the 16 girls athletic teams earned higher GPAs than all of the mens athletic teams.  The only exceptions were JV Girls Golf, JV Cheer, and Freshman Cheer.

Varsity Football shocked us all, coming out with the highest GPA of all the mens athletic teams.  They earned a 3.5, which is .17 higher than their cumulative GPA from last year.

Coach Benzel said, “It’s not bad for football players.”

Football wasn’t the only team that exceeded expectations.  Every RHS sports team has done an excellent job keeping up their grades.  They have set the standard for the rest of the year, and although some teams have room for improvement it seems the is high for the majority of RHS athletics.
