Friday November 1st was a big night for Cross Country Varsity boys.  Not only was it a win, and senior night but they did it in honor of runner Heidi Greenwood who passed away last year.

Because cross country is required to have matching uniforms at all meets, the boys wanted to coordinate their uniforms so they could support Heidi. Heidi’s favorite color was purple so the team wears purple spandex under their shorts when they race.

“I think its important to recognize her in anyway possible to keep her mentality alive and just keep her here in spirit” said senior Zachary Skalet.

When asked about how he felt about winning the last SFL league meet Galen Fritz said, “it should not have been so close in scores because we were so good this season, but now we have a shot at state.”

After winning their last SFL meet, the senior girls and boys were recognized and it was a bittersweet feeling for both seniors. They both said that “it was sad knowing it was our last meet, but luckily we still have some time before our season is officially over.”

The Varsity boys team also recently won 1st in sub sections in their division and 1st for all divisions combined. They have a good shot at state if they continue their winning streak at sections this Saturday. They are all excited to finally make it to state because the last team to make it was in 2009.

With both teams having a shot at State, Zach said he “feels excited and can’t wait to find out if we make it.”

Not only did the boys have a victory, but the girls as well. The top 10 girls qualified for Sections this past Saturday, and the girls got 5th out of 20 schools.
