Stereotypical peers with mental health issues are viewed as inferior and looked down upon. Depression, anxiety and suicidal-thoughts can be an effect of this stigma.

Discrimination can tear someone apart from the inside. Putting an end to this issue in Rocklin is a step in the right direction for a better community by spreading awareness.

A New State of Mind is a production put on by the Auburn Hip Hop Congress that teaches that every mind matters. Mental illness has affected 75% of the population in California alone, before the age of 24, which is why this production is extremely meaningful for teenagers to see.

Intolerance and bullying those with a psychiatric disability has been a neglected issue for the community, but is finally getting the attention it needs.

Rocklin High School student and Placer County Youth Commissioner, Alec Luna, helped plan the event.

Luna said that A New State of Mind is a production taking place that is, “trying to reduce mental health STIGMA.”

The event will occur on Thursday, November 14th at 6:30-8:30 pm in the McBean Pavillion, 65 McBean Park Drive, Lincoln, California.  A complimentary meal will be served at six pm prior to the meeting. It is completely free and will help educate the Rocklin and Lincoln communities about what mental illness truly is.
