Batman movies are considered to be some of the most gritty and dark superhero movies out there, but if you are trying to find any of that in the “Lego Batman Movie”, you are definitely in the wrong theater. The “Lego Batman Movie” is the complete opposite of it’s predecessors; it’s humorous, colorful and incredibly good.

The movie opens with an incredibly well animated scene of the Joker and all the villains of the Batman universe trying to blow up the city with an extremely large cartoon bomb. The scene throws you back into the Lego universe established in the “The Lego Movie”, with stunning bright colors and Batman’s master builder skill he uses to disarm the bomb and save the city.

The main storyline is Batman has been the hero that Gotham “needs” for a long time, and the new commissioner, Barbara Gordon, feels his results are lackluster and plans to have the police and Batman work together. However, when Joker gets an entourage to help carry out his plan to take over Gotham, Batman is forced to ask for some help.

With a stellar comedic cast composed of Will Arnett (Batman/Bruce Wayne), Michael Cera (Robin/Dick Grayson), Rosario Dawson (Batgirl/Barbara Gordon), Ralph Fiennes (Alfred Pennyworth) and Zach Galifianakis (Joker), it’s expected that the theater was filled with childish giggles. Those giggles came from parents too, with recurring jokes about the Batman’s of the past and other geeky references to “Harry Potter”, “Gremlins” and “Doctor Who”.

The most incredible part of this film is their perfect blend of whimsy and quick wit that keeps you listening. But what keeps your eyes glued to the screen is the vibrant neon Lego pieces that rearrange into imaginative creations we created as a kid.

If you are looking for a good laugh at the grittiest hero in town being faced with a little boy with no pants, a clown and to eat a lot of frozen lobsters, then look no further. I recommend this movie to anybody slightly familiar with DC comics and those who want a break from their unsuccessful releases.
