Due to disciplinary measures, some individuals will not be able to perform in this year’s musical, “Footloose”. As the theater-cliché states, “the show must go on.” In order for the show to continue, some last-minute substitutions had to be made.

The directors had to cut and shorten scenes in order to accommodate to the cast changes.

One of the biggest adjustments was the change for seniors Johnny Flowers and Davis Gomes, who now have to perform in both casts, having never been in an RHS production previously. While both boys were happy to help the show, there were some challenges that arose.

Davis explained that, “Now I have to do every play, today, twice on Saturday and Sunday [at two]. The biggest challenge would be that it puts a strain on me vocally from doing every show and it takes a lot of effort.”

As for Johnny Flowers, this musical was his first time ever acting in front of a crowd. He wanted to end his senior year with a bang.

“I was inspired by the one and only Luke Zianno, my best friend, because he did it last year, and he told me to do it as a senior and that it was really fun. The biggest challenge was probably just how these are my first shows, I’ve never performed in front of people before,” explained Johnny.

Some of the newly added cast members were involved with musical originally, and answered stepped up to help out. Senior Clayton Barnack was the stage manager of the musical as well as a student in Rocklin’s Theater 4 class was asked to play “Cowboy Bob”.

Clayton commented that, “I had about seven hours in total to learn my new parts, I had a lot of stress and nausea.”

Clayton later joked that his new role had very little change to his schedule and involvement with the play, he simply just “[wore] some new clothes backstage, that’s about it”

Despite the last minute changes to the winter musical, “Footloose” is still in full swing. The remaining shows will be taking place tonight and Saturday at 7 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.
