Runaway Dance Conflictions

Because the Runaway dance was brought forward, some students have been finding some conflictions in the change of schedule.

Runaway Dance Conflictions

This Friday night, girls and boys basketball will compete against Oak Ridge in their third league match of the season. Girls freshman, JV, varsity and boys varsity basketball are the teams scheduled to play. The games scheduled have caused a stir as they have begun in interfere with other activities.

Rocklin is also celebrating the annual Runaway spirit week and normally has a dance scheduled for Saturday night so it doesn’t conflict with the basketball games. This year, after students complained about the time of the dance, it was changed to Friday night following the basketball games.

Activities director John Thompson stated, “A Friday night dance after a basketball game would be much more attended than a Saturday night dance on a three day weekend.”

With the time of the dance changing, it has been further decided to change the start times of all four games. The rescheduling was caused by the later original start times that would push the start time of the dance to even 9:30-10 p.m.

Girls freshman will now begin at 3 p.m., JV at 4:30 p.m., girls varsity at 6 p.m. and boys varsity at 7:30 p.m.

In addition, a number of juniors and seniors will be skipping the dance for their peers first Hot Shots game of the season. Hot Shots is a basketball league outside of the high school and plays every Friday night at 9.

Senior Nicole Cartan says, “I don’t plan on going to the dance, I’m heading over to watch the Blue Ballers (the Hot Shots team).”

Members of the Blue Ballers are also feeling the heat from the moving of the dance. The Hot Shots team is concerned about the number of fans that will now be attending their game and are afraid it won’t be as big of a crowd as it has been in the past.

“We’re upset that they moved the dance because now we can’t go to the dance and we won’t have as many fans at our game,” says Hot Shots member senior Kyle Wojciechowski.

Most team members are also involved in Delta Squad, a halftime performance with the cheer squad and a select number of boys, and were excited to participate in all three events.

“I was actually excited about the dance being on Saturday because I’m also in Delta (boys and cheer team halftime performance) so I have to perform at halftime at the school basketball game then go to Blue Ballers that way I could get a taste of all three events,” says senior Colton Graves.

The Runaway dance will take place immediately after the varsity boys basketball game around 9-9:30 p.m.
