With 2015-2016 being the school year of change, Rocklin High School’s athletic department is bringing in what may be the most exciting change yet.

Nike has agreed to sponsor our school, meaning top-of-the-line athletic wear, increased revenue and widespread established pride for Rocklin.

Athletic Director Mr. Ryan Spears was inspired by schools attending the Northern California State Basketball Championship who were sponsored by some sort of athletic brand. This inspiration led him to schedule conferences with Nike, Adidas and Under Armour back in October where each brand presented to our athletic coaches. After a meeting was held between coaches two weeks ago, the decision revealed Nike as the winner.

“I thought our kids would be excited about it, I think our athletes are going to be excited about it, there’s something about being…you know, ‘Hey, we’re a Nike school,’ I think that’s kind of important,” Mr. Spears said.

While our athletic programs will have full access to top-of-the-line uniforms and apparel, Nike reaches beyond the field. Part of the agreement stated that Nike wanted our entire school to be involved. Band and choir have taken interest in the opportunity of our Nike sponsorship. To break it down, any organization on campus has access to Nike and what they offer our school, creating a school wide benefit.

“I think it’s important that it shows that we’re a first-class athletic organization, that we work hard in everything that we do, and we want to make everything that we do top notch,” Mr. Spears continued.

Contracts are officially signed in the coming week and the 2016-2017 school year will be the beginning of an exciting representation.

“Whether it be band, or VAPA, or ASB, or athletics, or whatever, we [Rocklin High School] always strive to be the best and I think this is something that is another aspect of that,” Mr. Spears said.
