“Spamalot” Play Captures the Comedy of “Monty Python”

Spamalot Play Captures the Comedy of Monty Python

Spamalot is a  comedic musical that is, in the words of the show’s creator, Eric Idle, “lovingly ripped off of the motion picture ‘Monty Python and the Holy Grail.’” It follows King Arthur and his knights of the round table as they journey across medieval Europe, facing many foes, such as a killer rabbit, a taunting Frenchman, and an autonomous collective of peasants.

Including many original scenes, as well as an appearance from a man known only as “the Historian”, this play is much more than a recreation of the classic comedy. It includes many songs, many puns, and many fourth wall breaks.

It is certainly not a family-friendly show. It includes some sexual references, as well as profane language. Although somewhat vulgar, the scenes aren’t in bad taste and aren’t excessive.

The show was put on by the Roseville Theatre Arts Academy, who combine all different skill levels

Overall, it is a very funny show, based off of one of my most favorite movies, but it is not entirely original. It is additionally not family-friendly, so the audience is somewhat limited.
